CHRISTMAS DAY.
TO THE EDITOH. Sin, —I was surprised while passing through the principal street of this quiet little town this morning to hear tho sounds of blacksmiths' anvils, dressmakers' machines, &c, as if Christmas Day (even in law) was but an ordinary working day. I have seen a great portion of the globe, and wherever Christianity was the order of the day I invariably found the people commemorating the birth of our Saviour by religious worship of some sort; indeed, I had come to Balclutha to find the exception. Now, Sir, if such people had a spark of Christianity (and dare anyone say they have not) iv them they would leave work alone for this clay at least, otherwise I think the law should step in and check the offenders. Those law-brenltTS to which I refer I find, on inquiry, do not miss a prayer-meeting or a " bun banquet" tho whole year round. Trusting you will find a small space for the foregoing in your widely-read paper,—l am, &c., Visitor. Balclutha, December 25.
