THE ADULTERATION BILL. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —" Chemist's " remarks in your issue to-day are very much to the point, A great deal, if not most, of the evils attributed to drink arise more from the quality than the quantity consumed. Spirits, wines, and beers, even if free from adulteration, are mora or less injurious unless they have acquired a certain age ; and it would be well if tho public could ba ensured not only against adulteration, but also againßt their beverages baing too new. If those who at present do nothing but agitate for the extinction of what all leading nations in all times have doomed in a measure necessary for the wellbeing of the human race would devote their energies to inducing Government to pass such measures as would make the present frequent sales of injurious adulterated beverages (both alcoholic and otherwise) impossible, the whole right-thinking portion of the community would go hand-in-hand with them, and the evils which at presont arise from drink would almost if not entiroly pass away. It is to be hoped the next Parliament will not separate without so amending the Adulteration Act as to make the present numerous sales of spurious articles impossible.—l am, ifec,
Temperance,
