Sir, —The letter of " Chemist" in your issue of the 21at inst. deserves more than a passing glance. He strikes at an abuse tbat bas become notorious, and one that philanthropists, and especially temperance reformers, should wage a deadly war with. It is well known that there is hardly a really reliable temperance drink in the market, and tho adulterated and manufactured rubbish, with English labels printed in Dunediu, is notorious. 'As ono who has long bsen in the van in the great and noble temperanco cause, I beg to urge on my follow workers to have the Adulteration Act moro rigidly enforced, and to sco if it i 3 not possibio to compel manufacturers of gingarbeer, gingerale, and kindred bavarages to make their wares of the real articles, instead of tha deletorious substances named by " Chemist" aa having been found by analysis in the samples tested by himßolf; although, of course, their profits will be curtailed, and this, I take it, is tha
