THE OTAGO SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Otago School Csmmissioners was ■held yesterday. Present —Mr J. P. Maitland (in the chair), Mr A. C. Begg, the Hon. Jas. Menzies (M.L.C.), Mr W. H. Pearson, and the Hon. W. H. Roynolds (M.L.C.).

The Seoretahy reported that runs 202 and 175b were leased on toe 13th inst. to Mr A. C. Ibbotsop, for a total tent of £815 per annum. A petition was received from residents of Long Ridge, Hoponui, asking the Commissioners to change the name of the township of Balfour to Long Ridge.—The Commissioners decided that as the two townships were known on the different maps and railway plans by their present names, they could uot comply with the request. The Town Clork of Invercargill wrote asking the Commissioners to consent to section 2 of 43, block 11, Invercargill Hundred, being vested in the Corporation, for the purpose of extending the cemetery.—As the ground is at present under lease, the Commissioners have no power to move in the matter.

The tender of Mr Jame3 Crighton wan accepted for the lease of section 1, block 111, Toi-Tois, at £2173 6d per annum. J"?s£ Letters were received with reference £8^ surveying and offering for sale Borne ereanr sections on the reserve at Pyramid.-—lt was resolved that one of the sections, as at present surveyed, should be reserved from sale in the meantime, with a view of having it subdivided.

Accounts amounting to £70 16s 9d were passed for payment.
