THE GAOL. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —Tho effusion poured forth by your morning contemporary this morning could easily be refuted, and its fallacy exposed, but it is not worth the labour. Instead of such frantic wire-pulling, it would be better that the late keeper of Dunedin Gaol, if hs thinks he is wronged and has nothing to fear, should demand a full, searching, sweeping inquiry into the whole ef his administration. The appointment of acommission, with power to call for pprsons and to take evidence on oath, would perhaps now be the best thing that could occur.—l am, &c:, INQUIKY. December 12th.
