NOTES FROM KEEFTON. (By Teukjraph.] (from our own correspondent.) Rsefion, October 2nd. Tho half-yearly meeting of the Balaclava Company was held on Saturday evcuing, and was well attended. After the report and balance-sheet had been disposed of, the following gentlemen were elected directors :— M. Levy, J. B. Beck, M. Byrne, W. Dunn, and George CaESaly. It was decided to re3ume work at an early date, when some of the large body of stone in view «ill be submitted to a test The ground is north of and adjoining' tho Rainy Creek Extended, which is now undergoing careful prospecting, without, however, any change lately. Tho Inkcrman contractors for extending the low level 'did not mako average progress in the tunnrl last month. Time has unavoidably been lost in fixing up an air-blast, the pipes of which had to bo carried up on men's backs from the creek during very bad weather. Nothing important has transpired in the upper portion of Devil's Creek, and but very littlo work has been done. The Globe is down 55ft, and has at this dopth commenced a cross-cut, which is now 12ft towards the hanging wall, which is not yet reached. Tho stone appears of ordinary quality. One day's woik was done during last week in tne Great Western. No change has occurred since last report, except that indications of a solid lode appear a little stronger. The Oriental holed thro igh from the long tunnel to the winze by means of a long drill, causing the winze to be drained. It will take another day or two befoie proper communication is established. The Golden Hope tunnel is now about 90ft from starting-point. Some small quartz veins and leaders, slightly goldbearing, have been crossed lately. As the. country is improving in appearance, tho extension of the tunnel . will be pushed ahead. I
