A QUERY. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,—Would you kindly inform me through the medium of your columns if, in the event of a person occupying the position of Mayor, he were to stand as a candidate for Parliament and be duly elected, could he legally hold both offices? By_ complying with my humble request you will oblige.—l am, &c, J. K. P.
December 10th. [Undoubtedly, Mr Hutchison, of Wollington, has held both positions.—Ed. 0. D. T.]
AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT. ' TO THE EDITOR.*
Sir, —Having been an inmate of the Dunedin Hospital for close on two years, and being about to leave the Colony for Sydney, I cannot do so without expressing my sincere thanks for the_ attention and kindness which I have invariably received at the hands of Drs Roberts, Maunsoll, and Brown, as well as Mr Burns, the house steward. I also wish to thank the few kind friends who have assisted me in leaving. By inserting the above you will greatly oblige.—l am, &c.
. Thomas Murphy Dunedin, December 7th.
