MR M. W. GREEN AND THE PRO LESSORS.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,—Mr M. W. Groen is currently reported to have said at a recent election meeting that !ono of the Professors of the Otago University stole some fish. Some, indeed, say he only charged the offonce to one of their students, but most peoplo have heard the other report. Surely Mr Groen, if he did say any such thingl, will take an. opportunity of explaining what ho said and what he meant. Was it really one of [the Professors, and which:of them was it? Was Professor Parker, on biological research lintent, the culprit ? Was it Professor Maogregor, desirous of saving money to invest in tha purchase of more of those imaginary vast estatea that Mr Green is so angry with him for owning? Or is it within the bounds of possibility that it was Professor Salmond, anxious to provide a Friday's dinnor for one of his poor Koinan Catholic fellow Christians f Can Mr Green prove his charge ? Was he present in disguise, and did he behold the wrongful act from benoaththe friendly shelter af a slouched hat and borrowed overcoat ? Can he once moro confront the guilty party and say, " One of the witnesses stands before you"?—lain, &c, &. J. W.

Dunedin, December 10th.
