ATTEMPTED MURDER AT CHRISTCHURCH.

Chbistchubch, March 3rd.
At about ,2 o'clock this afternoon John Spring, whilst walking along Colombo street,, near Hereford4 street, was fired at twice byJohn Beanfield, who was about four yards off" at the time.- The first shot struck Spring on the left side of his trousers, just-under the abdomen, but only grazed the skin of his left leg. The second shot missed Spring'alto"ether After firing Beanfield walked away, but was stopped by a cabman and some others, who took the revolver from him. All the chambers were empty. Seven cartridges were found on Beanfield. Spring says that the only reason he can give for the shooting is that Beanfield had previously threatened to shoot him without the slightest provocation, and he (Spring)" told Baanfield he would lay an information against him. Beanfield offered no opposition" when he-waß arrested, but walked quietly t<£ thadepot. ;.- , .:'--": *,:
