THE CORPORATION STOCK YARDS.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir — The opening of the Corporation Market-place is one of the most important events that has occurred for some time, and it is to be hoped country settlers and others will avail themselves of such a boon. Honour to whom honour is due, is an old adage. The credit of originating a cattle market in the suburbs is not so much due to the City Council as to His Honour the Superintendent, who some years ago, on the earnest representation of the settlers of this district, entered warmly into the project. It cannot then be too widely known, that on paying a small coin of the realm, the buyer and seller can now, without vociferating, ; rationally discuss the merits of an animal. |No doubt for a time this method of buying i and selling will be somewhat awkward, but people will soon fall into an arrangement which for centuries has proved so successful in other parts, and save fees besides. The establishment of markets in other parts of the Province will much depend x*pon the success attending the Corporation one; hence the desirability of giving it the best support. Much credit is due to his Worship the Mayor for the demonstration made at the opening.—l am, &c, A. G. A. Green Island, Bth Feb.
