DISTRESS FOR RENT.
{To the Editor of tlie Otago Daily Times]
Sir, —Itis said that one of the oldest common law rights in England, viz: Distress for Rent, is not able, to be enforced in New Zealand, in consequence of the want of the necessary machinery—sworn appraisers, kc. Surely this defect ea" be remedied, either by an Ordinance to be passed by. the Provincial Council nqw sitting; or other means. Why should the Colonists of Nevr Zealand not have the same powers ftr. recovery ot snch demands as rent, "as those of other Colonies! ■■"'.-.:-.;•■■ j. .v., •; : 'f.
