SQUATTING AT PELICHET BAY.

{To theAEditor of the Dxiin Times.) y y Sir—As the Government of Otago dpnot seem^ disposed to take any further notice of the, stores on the: reserve ground at Pelichet Bay, but allow them to remain rent andts xes free, I beg to inform them that wei,, the undersigned, cannot afford 'to pay heavy rent, and a road tax, at the Tate of ls 3d in the pound, while our opposite neighbours pay nothing whatever* We shall be compelled to close our stores on private ground and erect permanent .ones: on the reserve, where we can carry on a roaringbusiness, buy rubbish at the auctions, sell cheap, and put all profits in. our pockets, then, perhaps, the Government will eject all storesfrom the reserves when they find the taxes will not keep the roads in repair. -■: . »•'■-■" :A Again > there's one of the legitimate traders who has. lately paid LIOQ for bis store, besides a yearly rental of 17s, 6d per foot. I ask any sensible man is it justice such things should be?
