Elizabeth Egan, Thomas Pardcll, William Theodore, Hubert .Morrison, and John Scavenger, were each lined :20s. for drunkenness. -Morrison was further sentenced to seven days imprisonment it being his third oftbnee within less.■"than a month. John Baxter, of thu upper Harbour, was charged by Mary Cooker, his housekeeper, with deserting his three children. The prosecutrix, who appeared to be a Very respectable old lady, stated, that she had been engaged some time ago by the prisoner to take charge of his children^ and that since that time she had never received any wages, ami had been frequently left without any provisions in the house; and been compelled to purchase them with her own money ; Jie had not been home for the last seven weeks, and there were no provisions in the house. The prisoner who admitted the charge was ordered to pay 20s. per week into court, for the childrens' support. "Baxter was again summoned by the same person fur her wages and the money she had expended in 'maintaining the children,1 when judgment was given for the sum claimed. ! "Alury Mitchel was charged with i-tenling a pair of stockings from her mistress, but as the prosecutrix did not appear, the girl was discharged. Alary Ann Phillips was charged under the Vagraut Ordinance with having used indecent and insulting language to her husband; Several wit- j nesses were called and the charge being proved, she was fined ss. and costs. Several informations.1 for Nuisance were dismissed and postponed ; as also, a charge against Hugh . Caldor, for having opened a drain in a public street without leave.'i
