TOWN BOARD.
The first meeting of the Town Board since; the annual election was held yesterday. PresentAll the members except Mr. Moilison. Mr. S vit-zer in the chair. Air. ICilgour was re-appointed Treasurer. A letter was read .from the Superintendent, enclosing a letter from the Commissioner of Police, ou the subject of the appointment of an Inspector of-Nuisances, and making provision for his salary. ' it was resolved, on 'lie motion of Mr. G'argill, seconded by Mr. Shanu, "that having read the Superintendent's letter, and the enclosure from Mr. iiranigan, applying for the salary of an. Inspector oi'Nuisances", to be appointed, by the Gov<smma: it ; -.resolved, that as the Dimedin Town Uoard. has no power vested in it to meet such a e;i:-e they regret being unable to comply with the request." . A letter from Mr. Ei Casper, requesting : a reconsideration of the Board's former resolution on an application for.the formation of Hope-street, having been read, it was' resolved, on the motion of Mr. Hardy, " That the Board adhere to its former resolution." .■','■■ Mr. Graham moved—"That the Clerk be instructed to request the Government to take steps at the -earliest possible: period" to have -the town re surveyed, and pegs put in at the corners of all the streets,"- —-which was agreed to. ■ Ah' application from Messrs- Stevenson-and Oughton, joint lessees of a municipal section in the Taieri, to be allowed to divide the section'and have two distinct leases, was "granted on condition of their paying all expenses.. A notice of. motion as to rescinding of resolution reqvdring payment of bonus of ,£SO on transfer of lease of section 3, Block XX, Waihota, was loit, and-the' former resolution was confirmed. An application from "Win. Sims, for the transi fer of a ten-acre section to Mr. I'uller, was granted on payment of a bonus of £5. In-.' lluime moved, and Mr. Kilgour seconded — " That the Clerk be instructed to employ labour on Princes-street to keep the water-courses and street free of dirt, and also to procure six patent roiid-seni-pavs, and to remove the mud." Agreed to. ..'.■■";', Several Accounts were then passed, and the Board,adjourned till the 'following .Monday. '
