The ninth annual sports meeting of the Enfield Athletic Society was held on the new grounds at Enfield yesterday. The meeting was severely handicapped by the rain of yesterday morning and the previous everting, and it lookea as it a postponement would have to take Elace. However, the weather cleared efore the special train from Oafaiaru left, and, although few Oamaru people took advantage of this means of arriving at the grounds, the people round about the district turned out in goodly numbers until towards the afternoon there was a large crowd of interested spectators. An energetic committee had things well under control and the events were got off in good time. Although owing to the heavy state of the ground the times were not up to the usual standard, some very good races resulted, and many close finishes created a good deal of excitement. The 10th Regimental Band played a bright programme during the day, and thus added greatly to the pleasure of the outing. The luncheon and refreshment booths were conducted by Miss Hannon. L. Atkinson, the winner of Messrs G. and T. Young's cup in 1909, again topped the list, practically taking everything before him. He also won the gold medal presented by Mr G. J. Cowan for the competitor gaining the most points during the day. Mr A. Campbell's gold medal for second goes to A. C. Anderson, who also takes Mr J. Cassidv's prize for most points in ball, "hammer, caber, and wrestling. F.
