The eleventh meeting of the Duntrnon Caledonian Society was he'd -yesterday. This annual Boxing Day function "has always evoked considerable interest, and yesterday's gathering proved no exception beyond the fact that the attendance suffered owing to the uncertainty of the weather. The sports Were well patronised locally, but tne special train from Oamaru was not so heavily laden as has been the order in the past. Fortunately the day held fine, and while there was some breeze there was no dust, a condition for which visitors to the township were grateful. The programme provided was :>. diversified one, albeit somewhat lengthy with its 32 items. It, however, included something for everybody so that even those whose capabilities enabled them to do nothing more deserving than kick a football were not left out. Indeed, the goal-kicking attracted tho attention of some of tlie best of the athletes, and they had to go down before their less pretentious competitors. A. Ross, from scratch,, made a good race of the final of the Duntroon Handicap of 220 yards, and well deserved his win. J. R. Wilson, & Maheno competitor, won in the 100 yards, 200 yards and 440 yards handicaps, and also becomes the holder of Messrs G. and T. Young's Cup for the best all-round athlete. Wilson, in addition, becomes the.holder of Mr J. E. Hood's tTopliy for most points in running until it is again competed for._ R. Kidd, with two firsts to his credit in the jumping contests, won. Messrs Fyfe Bros', trophy for most points in jumping, and Mr William Gardiner's medal for most points in the hammer, ball and caber contests was won by R. Donaldson. R. Thomson secured the major points in the music contests, and won Mr J. Johnston's medal. _ The stewards nnd judges were attentive to their | duties, so that the lengthy programme was got through without unnecessary delays. The details of the gathering were kept well in hand by the secretary (Mr M. Francis). A strong detachment of the North Otago Pipe Band, under Lieutenant- Couper, journeyed from Oamaru, and snpplied music in the generous manner for which tlie band is noted.
