Christcburch, December 2. William iiut'i.lge, the. \oung mail arrested in ponnectiofi with the recent jeweller}- burglaries, pleaded guilty to several charges of theft at the Police Court to-day. He made a lengthy statement in which be alleged that his ill-health, which prevented him working at his trade (that of a cook) and tho ill-health of his wife led liim to commit the crime. On one charge he was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, on tho second to one month, and fourteen days 011 the third, the sentences to be concurrent. With W. G. Thompson he was charged with the. theft of jewellery, and the case was remanded till Thursday. Wellington, December 3. In the Supreme Court- to-day John Adams, charged with theft, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment and declared an habitual criminal. Jas. Jones, for assault and robbery, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment.
