HILLGROVE NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) We have had over a month's very warm dry weather lately, during which time all the crops around were ripened, cut, and stacked without trouble, except that in a few cases men were short. When harvesting was done, however, there were plenty passing by to the work that still lay further on. The fine weather broke on Friday week in a few hours' rain, and none too soon, for grass was getting quite parched up, the milk supply going down in consequence. A good number of people had commenced to cart water for household use. Last Thursday night rain commenced again and continued until Saturday morning, which has given the country quite a fresh appearance again, and should "ensure au adequate supply of winter feed, which we wen; despairing of until the rain came. The re-laying gang on the railway arc making good progress with their work and are now over a mile below ilillgruvo Siding. A general picnic was to have been held on Friday in Mr Dick's paddock at Ilill■tovc, but, as usual when picnics are to be held, it rained, and a postponement was imperative.
