WELLINGTON. Augusfa 12 At a meeting of representatives of various bodies in the city resolutions were passed in favor of introducing the Irish national school book of Scripture lessons into the public schools of the colony, and a Committee was formed to further the object. The apology tendered by Truth for the reflections on the Government officers has been accepted, Truth paying all costs, and publishing the apology as an advertisement in the principal towns, CHRISTCHURCH. August 12. The following team has been selected to play against Wellington on Saturday at Lancaster Park :—Full back, S. Orchard ; three-quarters, J. O'Brien, A. Hobbs, F. J. Cowlishaw ; five-eighths, A. E. White ; half, A. E. Cook; wing forwards, L. Oram and A. Johnston ; forwards, 3VL Lynskey, H. Frost, H. Fanning, A. Kerr, J. Saffe, O. D. Fraser, and G. Duke. Considering the amount of material available the team is as strong a one as Canterbury can put in the field. The clubs represented are Liawood, Merivale, Christchurch, Kaiapoi, and North Canterbury.
