The Agricultural Economist announces that the National-Co-operative Flower Show for 1895 will be held, as usual, at the Crvstal Palace, on Friday and Saturday, August 23 and 24. A new and interesting feature of the show will be a series of designs for workmen's gardens. Special prizes of L 5, L 3, and L2 are offered for the best illustrations that shall contrast the * l worker's garden of taste " with the *' worker's garden run to waste." It appears that the editor of the studio has kindly promised to receive the designs and arrange for impartial adjudication. It appears that an interesting experiment in teaching practical gardening is being tried at Bournemount, thanks to the liberality of T. G. Hooper, Esq., one of H M. Inspectors of schools, who has undertaken to defray the expenses of the venture. Twelve pupils of the Boscombe British School have each a plot of ground (20ft by 14ft), which they cultivate under the superintendence of a skilled instructor, Mr W. Heath. The boys, whose ages range from 12 to 16 years, work on the allotments from 3.30 to 6 o'clock on three afternoons a week, and although operations were only commenced on March 25th last, the land has been thoroughly cleaned, and seed-sowing fr in progress. Each boy bas a complete outfit of tools, which, as well as all the other necessaries, such as manure, seeds, etc, are provided by Mr Hooper. Miss C.
