OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND, (by telegraph. ) Inyercargill, September 12. The annual interprovincial football match, Otago v. Southland, was played to-day in wretched weather. The ground was in fair order, but, of course, slippery by reason of pelting showers of rain and hail which fell while the game was in progress. The teams were very equally matched, and the game ended: Southland, 3 points ; Otago, nil. It had been thought that the visitors would have the best of it on the wet ground. _ Ross, their fullback, was lamed early in the first spell, and was not much use afterwards. The teams will meet again. North Otago Golf Club. The second round of the handicap tournament resulted as follows : J. P. Every (6) beat E. R. Vickerman (4) by 3 up and 2 to play. R. W. Muir (scr) beat H. Newton (6) by 5 up and 4 to play. D. A. Brydone (scr) beat C. Church (6) by 4 up and 2 tn play. F. .Milne (18) beat J. W. Bain (12) by 3 up and 1 to play. B. Brodie, W. Milne, and E. F. Armstrong obtained byes. The following is the draw for the third round J. P. Every (6) v. R. W. Muir (scr). W. Milne (4) v. B. Brodie (12). D. A. Brydone (scr) v. E. F. Armstrong (12). F. Milne, a bye. Mr A. M'Neill, the season's champion golfer of New Zealand, played a round of the links yesteiday, his score for the nine holes being 49.
