At the Antwerp wool sales 3700 bales were offered, including 1400 Australian. 1700 bales were sold, and uf these 430 Australian. There was only a medium attendance, and competition was poor. Prices realised were above those received at the last Antwerp wool sales for River Plate wools and London sales for Australian. Received September 13, at 0.50 a.m. Berlin, September 12. The local Press is again agitating for a German protectorate over Samoa. Paris, September 12. Four warships have been despatched to support M. Deviler's mission to Madagascar. The prospect of the expedition finally conquering Madagascar is popular in Paris. Rome, September 12. Signor Crispi has ordered the expulsion of an Italian journalist who was a ringleader of the attacks on England. London, September 12. Hundreds of persons who support royalty are flocking to England from France to attend the funeral of the Comte de Paris. Several affecting scenes have taken place in the death chamber. Mourning has been ordered in the English Court. The Times considers the New Zealand Government's protest respecting Neckar Island a blunder, which could have been obviated by previous inquiry, as Hawaii's right to the island has already been admitted. It adds: "Presumably the protest will be withdrawn, as it is likely to impede the present negotiations of the Imperial Government in the matter." Captain Campbell Preston, of the Black Watch, has been appointed aide-de-camp to Lord Glasgow. Belgian and French capitalists are forming a corner in tin, and at present hold 12,000 tons of the metal.
