Lady Glasgow left the ship at Fiji, joiniug the direct steamer to New Zealand. It is understood that at the special institution of the Government an official of the New Zealand Land and Income Tax Department will visit- Sydney to give information as to the working of the system. Melbourne, September 12. Another large Building Society—the Modern Permanent—has been compelled to ask its creditors to accept per cent., instead of five offered under the reconstruction scheme. Received September 12, at 1.10 pm. Svdney, September 12. An attempt to repeal old statutes dealing with Sunday trading failed, the Bill being rejected by an overwhelming majority. The result was largely due to the measure going too far in the direction of securalising the Sabbath. The Premier opposed it.
