The Agent-Generalship.
(by telegraph.)
(FROM OUR OWN" CORRESPONDENT.) Wellington, September 15. The general opinion is that the Government have niade an excellent choice in regard to the Agent-Generalship, Mr Perceval standing very high in the estimation of the House. He has shewn some judsment, modesty, and ability, and it is thought that he is likely to succeed in anything he undertakes. Certainly, if diligence and conscientiousness can ensure success, Mr Perceval's success is assured, and he will be followed by the warm regard of all who have come in contact with him. I think Mr Rolleston acquitted himself exceedingly well in his congratulatory speech, which was honest, cordial, and in no way fulsome. It was the sort of congratulation that a man of taste with a " level head "likes to have addressed to hint.
