(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION). WELLINGTON. August 23. The interesting Masonic ceremony of installing Bro. C. J. Toxward as D.G.M., of Wellington, under the English Constitution, in succession to Sir Donald M'Lean, took place to-day. Representatives of Lodges of other Constitutions, and from different parts of the Colony, attended, and about 150 brethren were present. The ceremony was impressively performed by Bro. Geo. Graham, District Grand Master of Auckland. CHRISTCHURCH. August 23. It is probable that a volunteer search party will be organised on Monday to make a thorough search of the New Brighton sandhills for the body of the missing man Vennell. Strong suspicions point to the probability that he has been murdered. August 24. The football match between Canterbury and Otago was drawn, nothing being scored on either side, though the southern team had slightly the best of the game. The Wellington team arrived just in time to see the match. DUNEDIN. August 23. Efforts are being made to amalgamate the Otago and Christchurch Railway Benefit Societies on a mutual basis, and delegates from Otago will go to Christchurch on Tuesday with that object in view. NEW PLYMOUTH. August 25. At 7 o'clock this morning the gaoler discovered that the notorious prisoner sent here from Canterbury named Orr, alias Hall, had escaped during the night. The prisoner was confined in a cell ever since his recent re-capture, and had not been permitted to leave the cell under any pretence. He was last seen at locking-up time last night, when he was safely, as it was thought, secured in his cell. The gaoler, on visiting his cell thi3 morning, found the door unlocked and the prisoner gone. The prisoner escaped through a yard, and a padlock to a gate in it had been also unlocked, and had not been wrenched or broken in any way. The constables are actively searching for him. but up to the present time Orr has not been secured.
