(FRO3I OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.) DUtfEDIK August 25. Several informations have been laid against fishmongers for disposing of flounders less than nine inches long. Their counsel contended that the Act only gave the Governor power to recommend a season of the year during which fish may be taken, and to fix the size of the mesh, but was silent as to the size of the fish. The proclamation dealing with the latter was ultra vires. The Court took time to consider the question. Mr. Cutten has definitely retired from the contest for Taieri, and stands for Caversham.
Mr. J. A. Barr, solicitor, Greyite, opposes Mr. Driver, for Roslyn. Mr. Fish declines to contest the election for the city, as he intends offering himself for the Mayoralty. Messrs. R. and E. M'Donald's cooperage, Walker-street, was this afternoon completely gutted by fire. The premises belong to Sir. Reynolds, and are uninsured. It is believed the stock was insured.
