The City Bench this morning estreated his recognisances. The Education Board has granted twothirds of the cost of repairs (L 150) incurred by the late Oamaru School Committee, and h."s also agreed to allow the Clerk of Works to supervise the erection of the new school buildings. Mr. Steward ; pressed the want of repairs to the Rectory upon the Board, but it decided to postpone consideration of the matter. May 30.

Sir Julius Vogel telegraphs that Mr. Macdonald, second master of the Edinburgh High School, has been appointed Hector of the Hifh School here.

The Waste Lands Board has given a very important decision. One Fahey applied for the lease of section 4, block IX., Tuapeka West, but the Board understanding that the applicant had already acquired a freehold under the deferred payment system, decided that they could not grant him a second selection under the same sy&iem.

It is stated here that L« Loup and Trump Card have both been entered for the Melbourne Cup. Messrs. Cargills, Gibbs, and Co.'s wool cablegram, from London, dated May 27, states that prices for cross-bred s are firmer for Port Philip and Sydney greasy; for scoured, prices are equal to the closing rates of last series. Adelaide and New Zealand greasy show an average decline of a halfpenny per lb. as compared with the closing rates of last series. There is increased animation, bvit prices for all superior classes are decidedly lower.
