The Harbor Board this morning for the conferring with Sir John Coode on tfye proposed harbor extension. There were, present—Messrs. Sumpter (Chairman), Sfirimski, Menlove, and the Hon. H. J> Miller; Messrs. M'Gregor (Engineer), amd Forrester (Secretaiy) were also present. Sir John was accompanied by Mr. iJßlackett, Marine Engineer. After soin// preliminary business, examining and explaining various plans relating to the /works, &c, the party proceeded by trai/n to the Breakwater. Sir John Coode mode a minute examination of the whole of /the works in progress, and recommended the collation of certain information as neees/sary to enable him to give his report. Hef also desired that a complete set of sounding's of the bay be furnished, which work, it is understood, will be proceeded with at t,lne earliest opportunity. Captain Sewell, the Harbor Master, was examined, and his/ opinions on all points connected with the working of the port, together with suggestions as to the extension of the present wharves and Breakwater, were obtained. Of course, Sir John Coode reserves his opinion until all the necessary data have been furnished, when lie will, in the ordinary course, forward his report. He appeared to be well pleased with the work already done, and made practical suggestions as to the maimer of carrying out certain portions of the work, which will no doubt he acted upon with advantage, The party returned from the Breakwater at about 1 p.m. Sir I John Coode and Mr. B'ackett left by the 4.30 p.m. train for Timaru.
