WELLINGTON. November 3.
A movement is on foot with the object of forming a Burial Association in connection witli the various Friendly Societies in town, and so to reduce funeral expenses. The Good Templars will be asked to cooperate. It is understood that the Privileges Committee has been hard at work since the adjournment, in looking up Parliamentary precedents. Mr. Napier Bell, Consulting Engineer to the Corporation, reports unfavourably as to the adoption of Mr. Climies' drainage scheme. He considers it impracticable, and the expense so great as to justify the Council in declining to adopt it. Arrived : Barquentine May, from Foochoo, whence she sailed on the Ist August.
She brings 11,000 packages and 1000 tons general cargo for Turnbull and Co. She sailed a month after the Carl Ludwig for Dunedin, and the same day as the Diament for that port. November 5.
Tiie Tasmanian cable is again interrupted. The weather for the last few days in Bass's Straits has been of a fearful character.
AUCKLAND. November 5. The ship Otaki has arrived from London with 200 immigrrnts, all well.
LAWRENCE
November 5.
Died, yesterday morning, the result of scarlet fever, the second daughter of H. Bastings, Esq., M.H.R. She was born on the same day that Sir George Grey, w.ho was then Governor, visited Lawrence. Great sympathy is felt here for the parents.
BLENHEIM.
November 5,
Yesterday there was an unusually high fresh in the river Opawa. The bridge on the main road was washed away, and communication with the Railway Station and the railway cut off. It was the heaviest fresh since 1868. * BLUFF. November 5. The Albion Company's ship Marlborough arrived yesterday from Glasgow, with 100 tons cargo. She was 80 days out, and has 183 "immigrants on board. No deaths occurred on the voyage, and all are well.
