He has a.so arranged with wealthy firms for the construction and equipment of light railways in Australia, and partly arranged for a steam-service bet.veen Perth and Singapore.
DIRECT AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Sydney, October 1. The Rotorua arrived this morning, from Auckland, in four days twenty hours from wharf to wharf. Arrived-Easby. A disastrous fire occurred at Townsviile, Queensland, on Saturday. A number of buildings were destroyed, including tho National Bank ; estimated damage, L 25,000.
