THE UNIVERSITY. HOSPITAL DIFFICULTY. THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE PRINCESS THEATRE. June 20. Mr. Macandrew's resolutions to set aside LIOOO a-year towards scholarships was agreed to in principle by the Univerversity Council, but all the speakers opposed them on account of the Council's inability to spare the money. Mr. Harris said he would have supported .the resolutions if they had been made to read that any surplus after providing and fitting up the new building should be voted, for this purpose. The Vice-Chancellor and the Rev. Mr. Stanford both referred to the act that some thirty scholarships offered by the New Zealand University went begging. Practically the resolutions were negatived. A majority of the Hospital Committee, after agreeing to the proposed exchange, refuse to carry out the agreement with the City Council to remove the Hospital to the Town Belt. There was another fight in the City Council last night over the means of exit afforded by the Princess Theatre in the of fire.
