RAILWAY TO THE INTERIOR. Jnne 20.

The Council met to-day and adjourned till seven this evening. After receiving a deputation from Hyde in the StrathTaieri interest, telegrams were read as follows : " The following resolutions were passed last night at a large and enthusiastic meeting, attended by people from Alexandra, Cromwell, and Blacks, 'That aline of railway connecting Vincent County with the seaboard is urgently required.'' " That in the opinion of this meeting a line of railway communicating with Dunedin by way of Manukerika Valley, Ida Valley, Maniototo Plain, and of StrathTaieri, would be the most advantageous to Vincent County, and best calculated to promote the interests of the country generally, but this meeting declines to pledge tself to the Strath-Taieri portion of the proposed line of railway, if communication with the seaboard can more speedily and easily be secured by way of Palmerston or Oamaru." " That no scheme will be acceptable to the residents of this County which does not provide for immediate railway extension thereto, and also for the commencement of the works simultaneously at both ends." " That within their respective boundaries, the Counties should be charged with the cost of construction of the railway, subject to the supervision of the Public Works Department, and that for this purpose they should be endowed with grants of public land, equal in value to the cost of construction."
