THE WELLINGTON CITY ELECTION.

Wellington, March 14. Betting is pretty even on the ejection. Both Mr. Travers and Mr. Hutchinson have many friends, and each side is confident of success. The fight will be a close one. The Resident Magistrate (Mr. Crawford) censured a policeman in Court to-

day for striking a prisoner on the head ■with a pair of handcuffs. The man's head was cut severely, but public opinion is that the policeman was justified in using the handcuffs in self-defence.
