OAMARU HOSPITAL.

The regular monthly meeting of the Committee was held last evening, at Mr. Church's office. There were present —Messrs. W. J. Steward (in the chair), Headland, Locke, J. Bee, T. H. Brown, A. Clowes, Lemon, J. Booth, Galbraith, Dunn, and J. Church, Secretary. The minutes of two previous meetings were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence passed. A letter was read from Mr. Thomas Moore, the newly-appointed warder, thanking the Committee for accepting his application, and enquiring whether the fares of his wife and himself would be paid up to Oamaru, and if they would require to bring up their furniture. It was decided that Mr. Moore be informed that subject to himself and wife giving satisfaction for a period of six months, their travelling expenses, and freight not exceeding £5, will be refunded. Mr. Locke, Chairman of the Visiting Committee, read out a list of persons who had been patients in the Hospital, the number of days they had remained there, and the probabilities of getting any money from them as maintenance.

It was resolved on the motion of Mr. Headland, and seconded by Mr. Brown, " That the Secretary be instructed to compile a complete list of all patients indebted to the Hospital since the date of its opening, to be laid before the Committee at its next meeting, the Secretary to be remunerated for the trouble." The following resolution was also carried, " That a|book be kept in which an inventory be made of all goods, furniture, and stock belonging to the Hospital; such book to be entered up by the warder, and to be subject to the inspection of the Visiting Committee." A long discussion then ensued as to the advisability of an inventory being kept of all furniture, goods, and articles belonging to the Hospital. Some members thought that the Warder should be held responsible, while others held that the Visiting Committee should go through the list of articles periodically, and be in a position to know where every thing is, and if missing what has become of it.

Mr. Headland suggested that a book should be obtained, showing at a glance the number and condition of the various articles in the Hospital. Several members fell in with the suggestion, but it was eventually decided to postpone discussion on the matter till the next meeting. The Treasurer's report was read and adopted. Some formal business was transacted, accounts amounting to £4l ss. Bd. passed for payment, and a vote of thanks to the Chairman, closed the business.
