♦ THE DEATH OF THE ENGINES DRIVER. We regret to have to add another to i list of deaths ffom this sad accident. H Dugald Mitchell, the engine-driver, sm cimibed to injuries received last evenin| at 7.30. We understand that the p<K fellow's life was not insured. He lea\i a widow and four children to mourn 1 untimely end. CONDITION OF THE SUFFERER) We are pleased to learn that the stokei John Orr, is improving, and is now pa fectly conscious. Dr. Waitt holds on hopes of his ultimate recovery. We learn on making enquiries at tl Hospital, that the other men injuredColin Campbell and Edward Kennedyare also progressing favourably. ! We are glad to hear that only a fe days ago Mr. Taylor insured his life to tl extent of £SOO in the Australian Mutui Provident Society. THE INQUEST. An inquiry was held this afternoo before Mr. T. W. Parker, Coroner, on tl body of Alexander Taylor, at -the Alliani Hotel. After viewing the body, the Juiy,'t whom Mr. Thomas Forrester was chose foreman, went out by special train to tl scene of the accident, Sir. Smith, trail manager, having kindly placed a carriag and engine at their disposal. After the Jury returned from the seen of the accident, they went up to the Hoi pital, and proceeded to take the evident of Timothy Kenedy and Colin Campbei Inspector M'Luskey conducted the ei animation. Timothy Kenedy being sworn, deposed I was working since five a.m. yesterdayi the junction of the Waiareka and Moeral line. I wa3 loading the. waggons wit materials for the work, assisted by Coli Campbell, William Johnstone, and Alfrei Robeition. 'After loading the waggons \ii were proceeding back to Cave Valley ( the works. We had not got 100 yari from the waggons when we saw the engii coming up, and returned to the trucks/ the engine-driver said he wanted some cpa I was assisting to load the engine wi| coal. The last bag of coal was on iii back, and I was at the engine when noticed the fireman Orr on the engine. M cannot say where the engine-driver oriWa Taylor were. they were siwj v 'sH on the engine. I had my hand oniinJkj| gine when I was struck on the lieadwlt! something, and afterwards foiijad;. : mya9 some distance from the engine, aniqngst;( lot of sleepers, coal, and rubbish.
