Ever? local body' has a predilection for delay, it beiag considered right and proper to sat things off from meeting to meeting. Seme times the delay is asked for to enable the engineer to report, or for the Council to consider the matter, but m all cases some delay of longer or shorter duration is demanded. The Dunedin local bodies are no better than others m this , respect, and the latest instance is the action of the City Council m relation to the erection of city markets. Some time ago it was allowed to be published that the Council intended to build markets on the baths reserve m Moray-place, and everybody thought that was the end of it ; but at the last meeting of the general committee of the Council it was decided to' try what delay would do for the scheme, the excuse that the committee should view other sites.
