TAPPING THE "TIMES."
PUBLISHER COMMITTED FOR TRIAL -
: At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Dr. McArthury. S.M., George W. Gaudin, late publisher of the N.Z. Newspaper, was charged with having at Wellington, on May 26, 1906, stolen. the sum of; £& 16s, the property of the N.Z. '.'Times" Company, Ltd/ G'ajiain was further charged with having^ between* April, 1904, and May, J. 906, : stolen the sum of £83. Mr Findlay prosecuted and Mr Herdman appeared . foir the accused, who elected :to go to a jury. Evidence was gone into at great length, most of which showed ' tUat the business .of the "Times" must have. been carried out iii a most slip-, shod manner. Papers had been delivered of which no check was kept, and accounts collected which had hot gone through the books. The oases lasted nearly all day, and' at vHp conclusion of evidence, Gaudin reserved' his defence and was committed to stand his trial at the next criminal sittings of the Supreme Court.
