WEALTHY UNION S.S. CO.

MULCT A WORKER IN PALTRY FASHION.

A particullarly parsimonious action on the part of the rich Union Steamsship Company came to light this week. A man named Forbes, being out of work m Auckland, came south a week or two ago to try his luck m the Empire City. Apparently his search was not too. successful and last Saturday he decided to return to Auckland again. He purchased his ticket at the Union Co-s office, paying £2 for it. Almost immediately afterwards he received news that his wife had started to Wellington from Auckland, bringing their two childdren, with the intention of joining hini here. There had .been some misunderstanding as to Forbes' movements, but as his wife had started for Wellington it ,was useless for him to go North. So lie hied him to the Union Co.'s office again and, explaining the position, asked that they would refund him the money on the ticket he had just purchased. -They did so— deducting 20 tier cent., or 8s for their commission or something. As Forbes points out it was costing him £6 to brin<r his wife and childdren south, and yet this rich company were mean enough to dock eight bob from what he had paid on a' ticket not used. J Tis to be hoped the slim will do the shareholders' an amount of "-pod.
