At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Bertram Guy Randall, a clerk, admitted obtaining £0 from Frederick Felix Green by false pretences. Accused, who had never been before tho court previously, asked for leniency. Chief-Detective Ward stuted that the accused had represented to Green that his brother had a motor-car which he would sell for £3O, and that if the two of them had purchased it they could dispose of it at quite a handsome profit. Green advanced Randatl £5 as his share of the deposit, and was later given a receipt purporting to be signed by the accused’s brother. There was no motor-car, however, and the accused had acted solely with the intention of defrauding the other man. The magistrate (Mr E. Page, S.M.) ordered accused to appear for sentence this morning.
