HIGHLY SPOKEN OF
NEW ZEALAND IN ENGLAND SYSTEM OF - GOVERNMENT PRAISED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, January IS. Of the impressions formed by Mr Brigham, Town Clerk of Auckland, on his tour abroad two of the most outstanding are the high opinion held of New Zealand in English financial circles, and the regard in which our system of local government is held in Australia. “I found that the opinion of. New Zealand is very high indeed,” said Mr Brigham on his return by the Marama. “It is much higher than the opinion concerning Australia.” Mr Brigham had the placing of a loan of £500,000 for the city while in London. He said that but for the unfortunate reception of the New South Wales loan issued a short while previously the Auckland loan would have been floated on even better terms than those actually obtained, namely, 5J per cent, with an issue at £99. It was very pleasant to hear New Zealand spoken of so highly, he said, and he would like to know that Australia was similarly regarded.
