EXODUS FROM COUNTRY
SWELLING UNEMPLOYED RANKS POSITION AT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 9. One trade union official described this January as the quietest he has ever known since 1918. Unemployment is believed to exceed December’s figure of 616. Over 400 labourers are workless, and not many of the city’s labourers are taking advantage of the offers of country work, although some single men have done so. The unemployed ranks in Auckland are being swelled by the exodus from the country.
