WELLINGTON RACING CLUB

ANNUAL REPORT PRESENTED SMALL NET REVENUE. Thp report to be presented to the Wellington Racing Club shows a satisfactory state of affairs. A special meeting was held in August, 1925, in honour of the visit of the U.S.A. Fleet, and was appreciated by the visitors. The training tracks received a large amount of attention by the racecourse staff during the year, and the improvements effected wnr© a great boon to trainers. The stewards regretted that the club a two vice-presidents, the Hon. C. P. Skerrett and Mr W. H. S. Moorhouse, were retiring after a very long period of service with the club. Their advice and assistance had been invaluable. It was with deep regret that the stewards had to record the death of the following members during the year: — Messrs James Ames, L. Caselberg, M. J. Donnelly, R. Dwyer, C. E. Finch, R. D. Hanlon, G. D. Hansford, the Hon. C. H Izard, A. Jolly, Wm. Pollard, C. Smith, F. Townsend, Captain A. West, and C. Whelan. Tho following office-bearers retire in accordance with the rules, and are eligible for re-election:—President, J. B. Harcourt; stewards, J. W. Abbott, J. G. Duncan, D. M. Finlay, W. Higgins, and O. S. Watkins. The balance-sheet shows that the assets of tho club at July 31st stood at .£150,085 3s. The accumulated fund then amounted to £28,437 14s lid, and the net revenuo for the year £2ll 2s 3d. The principal item on the debit side of the profit and loss account is stakes, which amounted to £43,900. From the year’s meetings the Government received £49,289 9s 4d in taxes, including £29,081 in dividends, £16,154 16s 6d on the totalisator, £2IBO on stakes, and £llsl on gate receipts. Of this sum the amount collected from owners and dividends was £31,261 4s. On the credit side the receipts from the totalisator amounted to £61,197 19s 7d, from gates and railway receipts £18,479 18s 7d, from nomination and acceptance feeß £9679, from members’ subscriptions and entrance fee© £2979 19s fid, from privileges £2508 Is, from rent from reserved seats £IOOB, making a total of £95,843 18s Bd. MANAWATU HUNT CLUB RACES In connection with the Manawatu Hunt Club races at Awapuni racecourse on Saturday, September 4th, tho Railway Department announces in this issue particulars of excursion fares and trains for the meeting.
