Lang, in an interview, said that he hoped to see the time when the whole of the State parliaments and tie office of State governoi be abolished. He said that the abolition of . State legislatures could not be achieved piecemeal, but a move would have to be made conjointly by all the States. He entirely favours the retention of the office of * Governor-Gen-eral, and thinks that the time has come when another convention should be held to ''define the powers of the Commonwealth Parliament. Mr Lang said that as a substitute for State Parliaments his idea was to give extended powers to local government authorities to create such bodies as provisional (provincial?) councils.
