After a meeting of the officials of the Federal committee of management of the Watersiders’ Federation, Mr Hurley, the general president, made the following statement: “Wo have taken steps to bring about a normal 6tate of working in the waterside industry of Australia. We are in a position to say that for the future all disputes Kfetween the Watersiders’ Federation and the employers of maritime labour will be conducted strictly on constitutional , lines. AVe expect to carry out our obligations as far as awards and agreements are concerned. “AVe have instructed the branches to aot in accordance with the policy outlined.” ANOTHER UNION FORMED An application has been lodged with the Registrar of the Commonwealth Arbitration Court by the Permanent Casual Wharf Labourers’ Union of Australia .for registration as an or ganisation under the Aot. The union has more than 1000 members, Its main objects are to prevent strikes and lock-outs, and to preserve industrial peace by abstention from direct action and by the observance of awards made' or sanctioned by the Arbitration Court. An endeavour will be made to establish branches in all States. The headquarters of the union are in Sydney. SEAMEN’S UNION SQUABBLE QUEENSLANDERS SUPPORT JOHNSON BRISBANE, April 17. The Queensland seamen at a crowded meeting decided to throw their weight in the union quarrel on the side of Mr Jacob Johnson. Resolutions were passed repudiating the action of the committee of management in applying for registration under a new set of rules, and instructing tho State secretary not to make any more money available to the committee of management. The resolutions were carried by large majorities.
