“BEST RACE FOR YEARS"

WINNER OWNED BY AMERICAN Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. (Received March 27, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 27. A fortnight ago tbe Hon. Kenneth Mac Kay, heir to Viscount Inchcape, sold Jack Horner to Mr C. Schwartz, a New York merchant, who has taken a violent fancy for steeplechasing, and was determined some day. to win the Grand National. He gave £4OOO for Jack Horner, and an extra £2OOO conditional upon winning the Grand National with him. Critics class it as in every way the best Grand National for many years. It was a good race throughout. Nineteen out of the thirty starters completed the first round of the course, and fourteen finished. The casualties among riders were severe. The rider of Koko received concussion, Lonehand’s rider broke an arm, and another jockey had a thigh lacerated by a horse jumping on him.
