Tarleton and Sun Up have been taken to Auckland. J. Gray will ride Tall Timber in the Easter Handicap at Ellerslie. W. Bagby will be on Cawnporo in the Auckland Easter. H. Wiggins was married on Wednesday to .Miss E. Moberiey. Mr J. Donald, of the Wcstmsre Stud, Wauganui, has purchased the three mares from the Leybourne Stud, England who were passed in when offered at auction in Christchurch last November. They are Toiling Tressie, by Santoi from Fixing, by Willonyx; Merry Twinkle, 'by Blink from Magheen, by The White Knight; and Timid, by Ki 1 lire 11. from Ardesia, by Spearmint. The three mares have been running in a paddock at Riccarton and havo improved greatly in appearance since they wore pffered for sale, at which time they had only been a few day 3 off 4 he boat, after a long and rough trip from England. Rosenor, who is turning but useful, came out with the same draft. The F.astef Handicap candidate Merry Damon struck himself while working and has since been restricted to trotting exercise. His trainer states that it is nothing serious, and he expects Merry Damon to go to the post for tho big event. An interested watcher of the training work on Thursday morning was the erstwhile jockey W. Brown, who rode that good horse Nelson to victory * n . three Auckland Cups back in the 'eighties. It is many years since he visited Ellerslie, and he was greatly impressed with the improvements that have been made since his last visit. TRENTHAM TRACK WORK Track work at Trentham on Saturday was a little more interesting than, usual. The ground was rather heavv after Friday’s rain. Modern and Misgovern went seven furlongs m lmin 36sec. Modern is coming on nicely and is looking bigger than she used to. Grand Knight went seven furlongs and was picked up by Outfit for the last six. Grand Knight was too good for his companion and ran the seven furlongs in lmin 34sec, the last six rurlongs in lmin 20sec. Kilminster and the juniper Matu took lmin 24sec for six furlongs. Orchid, looking well, did six furlongs under a strong pull. He was not against the watch. Black Mint and a companion got to the end of six furlongs in lmin 24sec. Tresham and Royal Picture went a mile together. The pace was not on. but both worked nicely. The Surveyor youngster. Theodolite, did ' the best gallop of the morning, covering half a mile in 61 2-Ssec. W. Young has him very well. The hurdler Eonmark,, who looks in nice order for a winter campaign, was given steady work.

WORK AT ELLERSLIE “Archer” writes in the Auckland “Herald”:— The outside of the course proper was available at Ellerslie on Thursday, the trestles being well out. The work was full of interest, and there was some good galloping. COURSE PROPER. Star Cornet and Gold Mint ran four furlongs in 53 2-ssec. Aurumavis easily beat Wenday over four furlongs in 52 3-osec. Gold Fern defeated Serang and Dress Circle over six furlongs ill lmin 21sec. Hangawera was slightly in advince of Right and Left at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 36sec\ King Emerald arid Queen Emerald sprinted four furlongs in 51 3-ssec. Sleepy Sol easily defeated Marble Mount over seven furlongs in lmin 34sec. Automne gave Golden Krist, Gay Comet, and Cherry Girl a break and beat them over five furlongs from the old post in lmin 6 4-sscc. Automne looks well and worked nicely. Dave and Uizarro reeled off four furlongs in 62sec. Town Bunk defeated Praiseworthy over four furlongs in 51 2-ssec. Archibald did a useful working gallop, running the last five furlongs in lmin 11 3-ssec. Judge’s Box strode along nicely for six furlongs in lmin 22 1-Dsec. Danae was a shade in front ot Holymond at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 33 4-ssec. Brushwood ■ Boy accompanied this pair for five tur- : longs and then eased up. I Threadncedle and Automaton went nicely over four furlongs in 51 3-ssec. Clarus and Saucy Lass sprinted four furlongs in 51 3-ssee. Romney running the same distance in 55 l-ssec. Nnmutere was timed to run the last five or six furlongs in lmin “see. Tago San and Odin went four fuilongs in 55sec. Pittsworth covered a mile and a half in 2min 58 l-sscc. Mosaic was going comfortably for six furlongs, running the last five in lmin 0 4-osec. Master Doou and Appellant were together. and doing their best at the conclusion of seven furlongs in 1.33.

Thursby, with Pompey to bring him home for the last four furlongs, sprinted five furlongs from th© old post in 1.6. Musketoon was not extended while covering a round in 2.13 3-5. Cawnpore defeated Gala Day by six lengths over six furlongs in 1.18 3-5. Charlady and Exactly placed six furlongs behind in 1.20. Maveelish was responsible for fiv© furlongs from the old post in 1.7 3-5. Dark Prince accompanied her over the last four furlongs, which took 53 4-5. Royal Form and Pelham ran five furlongs from the old post in 1.8 2-5. Raceful and Passionate were going easily for seven furlongs in 1.42 2-5. Sir Henry went five furlongs, being picked up at the four furlongs by Acushla, who heat him easily. Acushla ran the four furlongs in 51 1-5. Quinette galloped six furlongs in 1.9 4-5, being brought home over the last four furlongs, which occupied 63 1-5, by Memoir, who finished slightly in front. Lady Robinson was first out after the breakfast adjournment, and went four furlongs in 53 4-5. Lomint and Tactician were bracketed for seven furlongs in 1.34 l-o. Bahama, Stormy-, and Schorr spurted three furlongs nicely in 39 3-5. Princess Ronnie went in good style for seven furlongs in 1.32 3-5. This little mare is very well. Sea Comet easily defeated Peter Asians over a round in 2.6 4-5. Comet King strode along for seven furlongs in 1.37 1-5. Ivillute, Bright Light, and Mangahewa were in that order at the end of six furlongs in 1.20 2-5. The Day Comet—Heat Wave gelding defeated Quandong, Newbury, Master Thurnham. and Nassock over four furlongs in 61.1-5. Homai got over five furlongs from fch* old post in 1.7. The Drifter and Daddy’s Girl were

timed to run six furlongs in 1.23 4-5, the former finishing in front. Knighthood, assisted by Nucleus over the last seven furlongs, pleased by covering a round in .2.3 4-5. The last seven furlongs took 1.35 2-5. Winsome Boy easily ran five furlongs from the old post in 1.9 3-5. '

THE JUMPERS. Tuki (W. Rowe) jumped four hurdles in good style. Ramehameha (W. Rowe) cleared six hurdles fairly well. The Archiestown —Lady Waahi gelding began with him hut blundered and lost his rider at the first fence. He afterwards went over five hurdles carefully. Bahadur (E. Stanway) led Some Bother (E. Rae) over the sod wall, double, and stone wall, giving a bold display. Some Bother jumped slowly, GALLOPS AT RICCARTON The conditions were pleasant for training operations at Riccarton on Thursday. The plough track was out of action, as a result of the heavy rain earlier in the week, and all the work was done on the number six grass track, which was dead. Precious and Haze covered six furlongs in lmin I.9sec, with Precious gothe better of the pair at the finish. Carnot was given half to three-quar-ter pace work, while the Sutnla— Roden two-year-old did a useful half-mile. Bandalero ran half a mile fairly well. Deucalion was going on well at the enit of seven furlongs, which occupied lmin 32 3-ssec. Scrip sprinted half a mile in 50 4-5 sec, and Cotilcur 'do Rose went freely over the same ground. Centrepiece covered six furlongs in lmin lOsec. Sightseer accompanying him over the last three. Rivalry and Retrospect were together at the end of a mile, which they ran in lmin 46sec. Paperchaso was going better than 1‘ ootfall at the end of six furlongs, run in lmin 18 4-ssec. Miss Minerva and Pcho sprinted half a mile in 51 2-ssec. Bon Skirl was given a strong working gallon over seven furlongs, with Lady Swinton as a mate for the last four. Glentruin reeled off six furlongs in lmin 1C 3-ssec, going at an even pace all through. Count Cavour left seven furlongs behind in lmin 31 / 3-ssec, and did it in his usual free style. Limerick was restricted to a useful task. Front Rank ran five furlongs in 1 min 5 3-s»ec. and Miss Flighty sprinted four in 51sec. Gay Life and Corinthie covered six furlongs in lmin lOsec. Hioro had lvileannich as a mate over six furlongs, which occupied lmin 19 2-5 see. Rag Fair and Bonnie Waif ran five furlongs in lmin Csoc.

Tarlefon left six furlongs behind in lmin 16 3-ssec, a useful effort. Gay Queen gave Kilris a start ovei six furlongs, the latter having a slight advantage at the end of their task, which occupied lmin 20 3-ssec. Countersign and Gold Brick were associated in an easy three furlong spin, run in 41sec, Glenalmond covered five furlongs alone in lmin ssec. Sporting Girl and Bonatio covered seven furlongs in lmin 35 3-ssec. showing good speed for the first half-mile. Assurance and Brightling sprinted three furlongs in SBsec, Clare Crag and Kilbox taking 40sec. Chickwheat and Orifiamb ran five furlongs in lmin 6 3-ssec. The former finished in front, but he had a big pull in weights. ON ELLERSLIE TRACKS Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 27. The weather was fine for training at Ellerslie this morning. The outsidp course proper outside two trestles was available for fast work, and despite the recent heavy rain was in good order. There was not a great deal doing, as a large number of local horses are engaged at the Franklin meeting. Town Bank and Sir Rosberry ran seven furlongs in lmin 36sec. Holymond and Brushwood Boy galloped half a mile in 56 l-ssec. Chairman and War Officer covered four furlongs in 54 3-ssec, the former being in front. Clarus and Odin went half a mile in 54sec. Charlady ran six furlongs in lmin 24 l-ssec. Threadneedle and Automaton did five furlongs in lmin 9 3-ssec. Automne and Archeno ran six furlongs in lmin 25 2-osec. Automne was lame after working. Musketoon ran round in 2min 14 3-5 sec.
