PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTESTS NEXT SATURDAY. One of the best athletic meetings cf the season will be held at Athletic Park on Saturday Afternoon, when tho Wellington provincial championships will be decided. The chib securing' most noints in the championship events will be av-arded the McVilly Shield, and cotnDetitioa for this is expected to bo very keen. Tho Masterton Club holds the shield at -present, ond it has selected a strong team to meet the local clubs and clubs from Manawalu. The cycle races be particularly interesting 1 , the best- riders being the Oaklev bros. (Masterton), Flett and Robin6on (Wellington), and Capper (Levin) Tho programme nrranged covers all branches of the sport, and will provide an Afternoon full of interest to the spectators. There will be a ladies* championship event, as well an several other ladies* races, boys* and girls* races, relay races, and several handicap events. This is one of the few occasions on which aH the best talent in the province mav bo seen competing at one meeting, and special interest v/ill be tnken in tkevent this year in view of the visit of tho American team.
