BEFORE THE COURT
CHINESE CONVICTED ON OPIUM CHARGE DESERTING SEAMEN FINED. Mr C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., was on the Bench at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday Kong On, aged 24, charged with 'having,, in his possession' a quantity of opium in a form suitable for smoking, 'pleaded guilty. A fine of <£s was imposed. KUen Ridout, convicted of the theft of a ten shilling ,note, the property of James O’Donahoo, was fined <£3. in default seven days' imprisonment, and was ordered to make restitution of the amount stolen. John Lewis Williams, for using obscene language, was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within three months. Edward Albert Peters, a seaman, charged with deserting from tho liner Arawa, tfas convicted and fined £5, in default li days' imprisonment. "Dominie Hugh Naughton appeared in' th') dock to answer several charges. Por assaulting Frank Grant he was fined £2 10s, and for using obscene language he was ordered to come up for sentence iT called upon within throe months. Further charged with resisting the police, Naughton was fined £2 10s. On a final charge of drunkenness, he was convicted and discharged.
