SILK STOCKING LORE

No true. daughter of Eve ; can possibly resist the charm of silk stockings» despite th© many attacks made on them. ~ . ... Quality varies according to -tne wearer’s purse, but e yery self-respect-ing female from Land s End to John o’ Groats wears silken hose! OH, THOSE SUSPENDERS t To the average girl, the appearance of a ladder in a much loved pair or stockings is little short .of a tragedy, and there are few of us who can afford to have these ladders repaired’ by experts. Suspenaers are nearly always responsible for the ladders. which rum so many stockings, and! if you wear suspenders, never pull them tight. It is a good plan to. machine two rows of stitching about an eighth of an inch apart round the stockings, just below where the ■ suspenders are fastened. Stretch the stocking to its fullest, extent while machining to avoid a tight line, and remember that the success of this little dodge depends entirely upon setting the machine'to its finest stitch. To lengthen the life of your stockings, never wear a new pair without first soaking the feet in water, or you will find they quickly rub into boles. WASH THEM OFTEN 1 Many a little chorus girl knows the value of rinsing her stockings through overnight. Just wash the. feet with soap and water, and you will find that thev will last very much longer. One last tip, never dry your stockings in a hot sun, or with a hot iron, and if you want them to look their silkiest, rinse, them always in cold water.
