LABOUR CANDIDATE’S COMMENT
“INTRIGUES AT AN END.”.
""CLEAN CONTEST EXPECTED
Asked by a “Times” reporter last night if he had: any comment to make on the arbitrator’s decision in favour of Mr Norwood, Councillor C. H. Chapman, the Labour candidate for the Mayoralty, made the following statement: “t would like to say I welcome a straight out fight. The situation is very clear. The contortions and intrigues have now come to nn end, and the Civic League, business representatives and leaseholders of the city, have now
selected a mi nwho is quite representative from their point of view. I believe it will be a straight, clean contest, and personally, I consider that it is l:etter that it should be a straight-out fight in which the voters will decide more on principle than on personalities,” “In a few weeks.” said Mr G. A. Troup, when addressing a meeting of electors at the Vogeltown School, “I will be out of a job—a job I have held for close on forty years. It is for this reason that I now make application to you, as employers, for anol 9 ! r job.” Mr Troup said that many men upon retiring sought the warmer climate of the Auckland district, but he presonally was quite well satisfied' with Weilington, “Windy Wellington,” as it was called, with its bracing air, warm sunshine (at times), and fine views. Mr G. Mitchell remarked that in the “new job” he was seeking, Mr Troup would find his wages were solely represented by a satisfied conscience, which, after ail, was the best of rewards.
